State Rep. David Martin (R-Davison) today welcomed Blue Star Mothers from across Michigan to the State Capitol, recognizing them for the critical role they play in supporting service members, veterans, and military families.
Martin hosts the annual visit each year as a chance to personally thank these remarkable mothers for the encouragement and care they provide to those who serve, and to highlight their continued service in communities across the state through volunteerism, outreach, and support for military families.
“Behind every service member is a family standing with them,” said Martin. “Blue Star Mothers represent that strength and support.”
Michigan now formally recognizes Blue Star Mothers Day each Feb. 1 under legislation co-sponsored by Martin and signed into law in 2024. The new annual recognition ensures the important role of military mothers is recognized statewide.
Founded in Flint in 1942, Blue Star Mothers of America continues to serve military families through hands-on volunteerism, supporting troops overseas, helping veterans in need, and honoring those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
